We got back from a 4 day long weekend today. I must admit that when we first turned up i wasn't sure we had made the right decision to stay in a yurt in October/November(may have been the fact that it was raining heavily!)......however.....once we got settled and the log fire stove was pumping out heat then all my worries seemed to just flow away. The site itself is lovely with the views and previously mentioned friendly bird life.
Anyway I always think the mark of a holiday is if you are sad to leave and we can honestly say that neither of us wanted to leave, we slept well, we were warm, comfortable and Fran & Tony were both lovely.
Back from our third stay at Larkhill. Again we have had a great family holiday. We had porridge, tea and boiled egg (fresh from the farm) every day cooked on the fire in the tipi. There best part of the week was when we entertained various in-laws outside the tipi with baked potatoes and beans. The ages ranged from seven to seventy and they were all impressed.
We were fortunate with the weather - longer trips on the rainy days and thank goodness the washing day was sunny (laundrette in Newcastle Emlyn). The outdoor theatre at the Welsh Wildlife Centre was a good ending to the week and our longest trip, a visit to the Island of Skomer via Martins Haven was well worth it.
I recommend this site to any family, it is such a small place that you cna let the children run free like we used to minimal cars and fewer people.
Our second stay at Larkhill, yurt this time and glad we did owing to torrential rain. Thanks once again for lovely time. The rain did not deter the boys (8 & 10) who ran around all day with the others in the woods and enjoyed the play area. Real freedom for them and great to have no worries about them out till way past 9.pm. Beautiful setting and lovely hosts, great animals (especially Lizzie the cat). I heard nothing but praise from the other guests there. There is just so much attention to detail, the carvings, the furnishings in the tipis, yurts, all much appreciated.
By the way, you are already on Trip Advisor, I had forgotten I had put you on some months ago and someone else has since added to my comments - both 5 stars, no higher does it come!
Larkhill Tipis is a truly magical, peaceful place. Our children (Emily 9 and Alice 6) were in heaven, exploring every inch of the space and finding new treasures every day. It rained but the tipi was warm and dry throughout. The log cabin kitchen was great and meant that we were able to meet some of the other families. The surrounding area is just beautiful - a new beach to discover every day.
Fran and Tony have thought of everything to make the experience just perfect. We will be back for sure!

Hi again. One thing I forgot to add. They have hot showers which are sooooo nice!
I got back from Larkhill Tipis today. It's lovely there. All the animals and people there are really nice. The chickens are so funny and there are some REALLY cute ducks and baby chicks. The cats there are also really nice and love to be stroked. Fran and Tony are really nice people and made us feel really at home.

We had a lovely stay. The children (Alex 6 and Anna 3) thought it was magical and we had tears when it was time to go. The weather was mixed but we found plenty to do even in the rain. On our sunny days we spent hours on the beautiful beaches in the area. It was great and we will be back - I can thoroughly recommend Larkhill.
weekend stay
Have stayed at Larkhill about 3 years ago in a tipi and wanted to return to experience the yurt. What a fantastic time. We arrived on Friday evening and lit both the woodburning stove and the campfire, we chilled out almost immediately and cooked our tea and then toasted marshmallows on the open fire and just enjoyed the peace and tranquility. The children, 13 and 10 explored the woods, followed the maze and played on the swing and then sat and helped keep the fire alight and collected wood.
We were woken very early by the dawn chorus but enjoyed freshly laid boiled eggs for breakfast and I had an extremely hot solar powered shower. :-)
The owners are a pleasure, making sure everyone is happy and being on call without being too intrusive.
Overall a fantastic time that I would recommend to anyone wanting a get away from it all, different experience.

I am inspired by this comment from Sylvia and Hazel. I'm staying at the Tipis in July and now can't wait for the weeks to go past so I can experience all that you write about. It will remind me of the camping I did in New Zealand, and I am looking forward to finding my sense of adventure again, thanks :-)

The night before we left home for Larkhill I was so excited and couldnt sleep it looked so ideal on the website. However having stayed there for just 3 days i realised it has far exceeded our expectations. It was simply perfect. Idylic, peaceful, serene and tranquil. The Bentwood yurt was fabulous, it was warm and cosy , very spacious for the two of us, and very romantic. The meditation circles and the Buddhas helped to make it a very special and spiritual place. The quartz stones around the site helped to give it that special spiritual energy. The chickens and the roosters were wonderful and even brought their babies to see us every day. the Roosters also made lovely alarm clocks. The free range eggs available were the best eggs i have ever tasted. The woodlands were young and vibrant and the birdsong that greeted us every morning was just so beautiful it was a wonderful start to each new day. The smell of wood burners and camp fires has stayed with me even now. The tree sculptures and the totem were a great touch. The whole place was enchanting and magical and i cant ever imagine going anywhere different for a holiday ever again. I love this place and will return very soon. For anyone who has never camped before or who is camping for the first time in a long time then this is just ideal. Trust me I am no camper usually. Everything you could possibly need is provided for you without any hidden cost. From shampoo to charcoal, barbecue, umbrella's, lanterns etc when they say that all you need is clothing food and a torch they are not joking they have thought about everything. This is not just camping its as good as it could possibly get. even the toilets were incredible. The compost toilet was clean all the time and never smelly ..an amazing achievement. The showers were also clean and hot at all times day or night. I am sure there are fairies that clean the toilets and showers after each visit. The only negative thing i could possibly say is ..I feel depressed now that i have had to come home. It really was the most wonderful experience. I am not someone who relaxes very easily as i am a workaholic and i do like my home comforts and appliances..but at Larkhill...nothing else in the world mattered because you cant help but be awestruck by its beauty and serenity. Thank you Fran and Tony for creating this magical place. Im sure we will become friends in the future because we will be regular visiters from now on. See you soon.

Thank you so much for a wonderful Easter break. The yurt was just brilliant and the whole site quite magical. We all loved it and will be back again. Great location too, we visited some lovely beaches close by, Cilgerran castle, Colby woodland garden and Dolaucothi gold mines - but the star of it all was the yurt and its fantastic wood burning stove- amazing. It normally takes at least 3 days for me to relax on holiday but at Larkhill I was totally relaxed within the first day.
There were so many 'best bits' about the holiday - It was the perfect destination for us and we will be coming back!

An Especial Place
There are so many “best bits” at Larkhill it’s difficult to know where to begin. Whether you favour the tipi or the yurt, each one being special in its own way, or just want to relax in the log cabin, you are guaranteed a magical and unique experience. The setting is simply stunning no matter what the weather throws at you and as well as exploring the delightful local surroundings there are many adventures to be had nearby such as canoeing, horseriding, castles and creeks, to name but a few. Fran and Tony have made Larkhill inimitable, can’t wait to go back. :-D
sublime
A wonderful welcome and a beautiful place to live carefree if only for a few days.
On arriving at the yurt, Nathalie felt like Christmas had arrived early and there was lots of slapping of 'paws' with excitement. J relived his scouting days fueling the stove on a regular basis and cooking on embers, Nat excelled at being more mischieveious than normal and for 3 days we lived like swallows and amazons, the car being our only modern appliance.
Fran and Tony were perfect hosts. The yurt was a perfect cocoon, the hens perfect morning buglers, our anniversary organic lemon cake, courtesy of the organic cake lady, a perfect breakfast having forgotten to pack any sensible morning food and the solar fairy lights a perfect navigator to the compost loo which Nat loved!
We missed the yurt on our first night back in the hub bub of London and hope to return again.
A beautiful way to spend our 5th anniversary
Thank you
Nat and Jay

Dear Fran and Tony
We just wanted to post a review to say thank you so much for a fantastic stay. I have wanted to stay in a tipi for many years and finaly Rhys made my dream come true for a Birthday surprise.
The tipi and all the essentials provided made for a very relaxed stay. The site is beautiful and with the lovely fire in the tipi the November weather did not matter at all. We were warm, dry and very happy.Submitted by on 27/Oct/2008
Thanks again for a memorable stay, loved it.
Best Wishes Jo x

Message:
I'd like to say thank you for a wonderful birthday last year; it was so good I'm coming back again this year! Late november in a yurt may seem like madness to some, but it was the cosiest most intimate stay I've ever had and beats any b and b hands down. A fab supply of fire wood and fresh eggs, and the cabin and surroundings were truly magical. The moment we arrived and walked through through the trees strewn with fairy lights into the warmth and comfort of the yurt it was an unforgetable experience that I cannot wait to repeat
